Charlotte County Artist Nancy Anderson Hello, I am Nancy Anderson. Welcome to my studio! My studio is my "Heaven-on-Earth." I love it! I share my room with Maybelline Mayterry, who is my art critic! She is a life-size soft sculpture I created to keep me company while I create. I dress her accordingly for special occasions (see photo below). Her debut into the Art World was at the Charlotte County Visual Arts Center for its 1996 Garden party. I call myself a "potpourri artist," as my artistic endeavors go in so many directions. I enjoy painting in oil, acrylic and watercolor. I paint and design wearable art as well as sew and design many of my clothes. Weaving Shaker and Appalachian style Egg baskets is an art form I love. I have braided, crocheted, Rya knotted and rug hooked rugs. One of my favorable artistic outlets is painting furniture. Many techniques are utilized in each creation. Some are marbleized, while others are painted with whimsical themes (fish, pigs ,Victorian houses, etc.). I refinish and paint many of my frames for my paintings using these techniques. I design mod jewelry and sell it at the Charlotte County Visual Arts Center Gift shop. I also fashion jewelry from common everyday buttons. I use collage techniques to create button pictures. I am most proud of a button picture/collage I created using approximately 1,300 buttons. My career has included a number of awards and other accomplishments. I am vice president of the Peppertree Button Club. I attended the 1995 National Button Convention in Orlando, and I designed the State of Florida button for the January, 1997 State of Florida Button Convention held at the Best Western in Punta Gorda. |
